‘Natural farming hasstruck root in State’

Naidu’s plea for tie-ups evokes positive response

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu told international delegates at the World Economic Forum annual meeting at Davos that Andhra Pradesh is implementing Zero Budget Natural Farming as a solution to the risks of an agrarian crisis, climate change and others .

Mr. Naidu addressed the “High-Level Dialogue: Achieving Planetary-Scale Impacts through Natural Farming,” organised by the UN Environment Programme on Tuesday via video conference from the airport in New Delhi, according to a release.

He said Andhra Pradesh has overcome the problems of addiction to chemical farming, lack of hand-holding support for farmers and others and has reached out to 8% of the farmers in the State through ZBNF practices.

He said knowledge dissemination by Dr. Subhash Palekar, support of 5,600 champion farmers, ownership by one lakh SHG women have helped the State achieve the target. He sought collaborations for mobilising financial resources and others related to ZBNF.

Various delegates and organisations announced collaborative projects in AP.

While Luhut B Pandjaitan, Minister of Indonesia, said he would emulate AP model in their country, Chair of International Nitrogen Initiative Mark Sutton announced Global Climate Research Fund’s South Asia Hub with $ 20 million.

World Agroforestry Center came forward to establish science behind ZBNF and WWF International president Pavan Sukhdev, Green Climate Fund and others extended support to the State.
