Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu made light of the Statewide dharna called by Leader of Opposition and YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy from Friday, saying that the TDP government had made debt redemption scheme a reality although no party had supported it.
At a media briefing here on Thursday, Mr. Naidu read out statement made by former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy that loan waiver scheme would not be beneficial to farmers as it would inculcate indiscipline among them and cause collapse of banking institutions.
Stating that many people had ridiculed his promised to farmers and contended that it was impossible to implement such a scheme, he said: “But, we have made it possible.” He claimed that his government was a pro-farmer one.

In spite of having a revenue surplus of Rs.16,000 crore, the Telangana government gave relief of only Rs. 1 lakh per family, while the TDP government, despite having Rs.16,000-crore deficit, was extending debt redemption up to Rs.1.5 lakh per family, he said.
Mr. Naidu further said that the government would also waive the loans taken by weavers, SCs, STs, BCs and Minorities.
