Naidu ignoring victims’Families, says Jagan

YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has asserted that his party would wage a legal battle with Tamil Nadu government on payment of compensation to victims of building collapse in Chennai.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy, who is on a two-day visit to the district, called on seven families bereaved by Chennai building collapse in K. Krishnapuram village in Dattirajeru mandal and two in Badangi on Tuesday.

Later, speaking to reporters, Mr. Reddy accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of ignoring the victims’ families after handing them over Rs. 5lakh ex gratia. The Chief Minister did not bother to take up the issue with the Tamil Nadu government and also the compensation of Rs. 2 lakh it promised to kin of each victim.

The YSRC leader said, “I will send a team of YSRC members soon to mount pressure the Tamil Nadu government. On behalf of the victims, my party will fight with the Tamil Nadu government legally, he said.

It may be recalled that 24 people from Dattirajeru, Badangi, Makkuva, Komarada and Jiyyammavalasa mandals were killed in building collapse mishap.

He visited the house of Pathivada Bangaru Naidu, one among 24 killed, and seven other victims families’ houses, including those of Siripurapu Ramu, Peketi Appala Naidu and consoled them.

Recalling the tragedy, M. Meenamma, survivor of the building collapse, told him that she reportedly remained unconscious beneath the debris for about two days beside the bodies of three more victims from Tamil Nadu. She survived miraculously after she was admitted to hospital for treatment. A few women at K. Krishnapuram informed him that people from the village go far off places in search of work and return soon after the kharif season begins.

YSRC MLA Sujaya Krishna Ranga Rao, district convenor P. Sambasiva Raju, and party leaders K. Srinivasa Rao and K. Veerabhadra Swamy accompanied him.

Mr. Jagan will visit Makkuva, Komarada and Jiyyammavalasa mandals to console the victims of building collapse on Wednesday.
