The wife of a police inspector was found dead under mysterious circumstances near the Aravandla Palli tanda of the Nallamada mandal on Wednesday.
According to the police, Arjuna Naik, the police inspector, is attached to the District Training Centre in Kadapa. He, along with his wife, Padma Bai (38), was guarding their ‘kandi’ crop (pigeon pea) at a field on the Nallamada - Puttaparthy road on the outskirts of the Aravandlapalli tanda.
“Arjuna Naik claims that some vehicle ran over him and his wife after they retired for the day near the field and Padma Bai died on the spot, while he received injuries. However, father of Padma Bai has lodged a police complaint alleging that it was a cold blooded murder and the accident was stage-managed by Arjuna Naik,” said Nallamada CI, adding that a case had been registered based on the complaint of the deceased’s father and investigation was on. Arjuna Naik is undergoing treatment for a fracture and minor injuries at Kadiri government hospital.

Meanwhile, the relatives of Padma Bai staged a dharna in Kadiri town demanding that the culprit behind the murder be taken into custody. The Nallamada Police have registered a case under Sections 302 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code on the charges of murder and giving false information to police. The police are also investigating the case from the angle of harassment.
