Mudhole MLA denies reports of joining TRS

August 27, 2014 11:25 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 07:17 pm IST - ADILABAD:

The MLA from Mudhole constituency in Adilabad district, G. Vittal Reddy, is said to have denied reports of his joining the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) recently, in order to retain the membership of the Legislative Assembly.

According to sources, Mr. Reddy will soon face an inquiry into a complaint filed by the Congress Legislature Party before the Speaker, seeking his disqualification for contravening the provisions of the anti-defection law as he allegedly joined the ruling party on August 6. Sources close to the lone Congress MLA to have won from Adilabad district told The Hindu on Wednesday that the latter maintained that he had only ‘met’ TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao on the day in question. The meeting was necessary for Mr. Reddy in order to keep the promises he made to his electorate, sources added.

Close aides of the legislator maintain that ‘proximity’ to the ruling party is key to the development of the constituency. “As he is devoted to work, he could not help but meet KCR,” was how an aide put it. It is learnt that the MLA had ‘defected’ to the ruling party after concrete assurance from the Chief Minister about safeguarding his seat.
