The number of girl students at Acharya Nagarjuna University has been increasing rapidly over the last few years. This development comes after ANU took several steps to curb incidents of ragging in the aftermath of the suicide of Rishiteswari, B.Arch student in August 2015.
Data from the office of Director of Admission showed the number of girls getting admitted in various postgraduate courses on the campus of ANU has been rising.
In 2017-18, 416 girl students were admitted out of 886 students, while it was 478 girls out of 1,095 2016-17 and 461 out of 975 students in 2015-16.

“It is encouraging to see a large number of girls getting admitted in the university. ANU has stepped up the facilities for teaching and research,’’ said M. Rami Reddy, Director of Admissions.
The university has also taken up initiatives such as providing self defence training programmes for girls on campus.
Also, the demand for courses, both pure arts and sciences and self finance courses continues. Except for M.Ed course, most of the courses were filled up. A surprising trend was that some students opted for PG courses in Arts after completing engineering to prepare for competitive examinations.

The Office of Director of Admissions has also come up with things like grouping the courses under faculties to streamline admissions. For instance, students can now apply for all the nine courses in Life Sciences Department with a single application and fees. Under Arts Department, the student can now apply for 14 courses.
