Former Minister Mopidevei Venkataramana, an accused in the Vanpic aspect of quid pro quo investments case against Kadapa MP Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, was granted interim bail by a special court here on Monday on medical grounds till October 31.
The interim bail, a second one to be granted to Mr. Venkataramana after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on May 24 last year, was granted bail to enable him to get treatment for his spinal cord-related problem. He was given interim bail during December 2012-January 2013 for visiting Sabarimala shrine in Kerala.
The petitioner could avail steroid therapy and undergo a surgery on his spinal cord as pleaded in his petition during the interim bail period, Judge U. Durga Prasad Rao said in his order. He, however, directed Mr. Venkataramana not to leave Hyderabad during the bail period without the court’s permission.

He was also told not to discuss the case details with others or influence or induce the witnesses of the case to change their depositions related to the case. “He should utilised the bail period exclusively for the purpose of his medical treatment,” the court stated.
Surety bonds
Further, Mr. Venkataramana was directed to furnish two surety bonds for Rs. 1-lakh each and sureties of two other persons for the like sum. The court directed him to surrender before it on November 1.

Mr. Venkataramana was taken to Osmania General Hospital several times by the Chanchalguda jail authorities for treatment of his spinal cord related problem, but in vain. A team of doctors of a private hospital later recommended steroid therapy and surgical intervention as the remedy for his problem.
