Month-long drive on fitness of school buses

June 11, 2014 01:08 am | Updated 01:08 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The government of Telangana has ordered a month-long special drive on checking fitness of school buses across the 10 districts of the State, starting from June 12. Also, the Transport Department has been asked to take up a drive on clearance of all pending files. Two orders to this effect were released by Transport Minister P. Mahender Reddy on Tuesday, a senior officer said.

According to normal practice, school managements are asked to get their buses in shape and get Fitness Certificates (FC) by May 16 every year, leaving them enough time to get them ready by June 12, which is broadly the date by which all schools re-open. However, there are schools that leave much to be desired as evidenced from the fact that in the past two days, 12 buses were found without FCs, for which the managements have been issued notices.

As regards the second drive, the officer said that luckily the digital codification of all pending files in the State had already been done. “We have the required information on our computer screens and all it needs is to review each file to find out the progress and fix responsibility and timelines on the officers concerned. This will take place between June 16 and 30,” he stated, adding that the exercise was an attempt to know more about pending files and generally improve administration.
