‘Modi acting as a reformist’

January 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - KADAPA:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is acting as a “reformist” delivering good messages to motivate various sections of people, but not as an administrator, Opposition Leader in A.P. Legislative Council C. Ramachandraiah said on Sunday. Mr. Modi entered into agreements worth Rs. 2 lakh crore with foreign companies during the Vibrant Gujarat campaign, but completed projects worth Rs. 54,000 crore and additional projects worth Rs. 24,000 crore were ongoing, he said. . Rather than making foreign trips to attract investors, creation of a congenial atmosphere will bring them to invest in India, he added.

Having a dig at Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for his frequent foreign jaunts, Mr. Ramachandraiah said no investments came forth so far. He recalled that visits by then US President Bill Clinton and Microsoft chief Bill Gates to A.P. in Mr. Naidu’s previous stint as Chief Minister prior to 2004 brought no benefit to the State.

Terming the BJP-TDP alliance as “opportunistic”, the Congress leader wondered how the BJP which backed bifurcation and TDP which alleged that the State was bifurcated unilaterally could be allies.

The alliance failed to ensure grant of special status to Andhra Pradesh or fulfil the provision in A.P. Reorganisation Bill to allot funds to A.P. in proportion to its population.

No investments have come so far out of N. Chandrababu Naidu’s foreign jaunts, says C. Ramachandraiah
