YSR Congress MLA of Rayachoti G. Srikanth Reddy and former Kadapa Mayor P. Raveendranatha Reddy, who were arrested and admitted to RIMS hospital last night, continued their indefinite hunger strike in hospital and ended it on Monday afternoon.
The MLA and ex-Mayor refused treatment despite appeals by the RIMS Director C. Siddhappa Gaurav on Sunday night and Kadapa Revenue Divisional Officer V. Veerabrahmam and former MLC P. Subba Reddy. On persuasion, they ended the fast on Monday afternoon. Along with the two leaders, the police also hospitalised YSRC leaders Mohd. Hafeezullah, P. Sampath Kumar and Panduranga Reddy, but they gave up the hunger strike today afternoon.
Resenting the arrest and hospitalisation, JAC functionaries squatted on the main roads and prevented movement of private buses bound for Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Chennai and Bangalore last night. They forced the passengers to alight the buses and sent them away. They called for a Kadapa city bandh on Monday. YSRC district farmers’ wing convenor S. Prasada Reddy and labour leader M. Prasad undertook indefinite fast before the Collectorate on Sunday night. YSRC district youth wing president Y.S. Avinash Reddy, the party’s city convenor S.B. Amjad Basha and S. Nagi Reddy, son of former MLA S. Raghurami Reddy launched indefinite hunger strike in front of Kadapa Collectorate on Monday. Kadapa bandh was enforced and shops and all educational institutions were closed. Textile merchants observed bandh in Kadapa.

Meanwhile, police arrested YSRC leader M. Sainath Reddy of Kotha Madhavaram who was fasting in Siddhavatam for the seventh day and shifted him to RIMS hospital.
