Malindo and SriLankan airlines withdrew services earlier

Minister for Tourism Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao on Sunday asked Thai AirAsia not to withdraw its flight between Visakhapatnam and Bangkok from next month.

In a meeting with Devasish Dutt, airport manager of AirAsia, the Minister asked the airline to continue its services – FD116 Bangkok-Vizag and FD117 Vizag-Bangkok, which are operated four times a week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

He also wrote a letter to Suresh Naik, India Operations, AirAsia, regarding the same. Visakhapatnam terminal manager Karthik participated in the meeting on behalf of the AAI.

Malindo Air’s flight to Kuala Lumpur and SriLankan Airline’s flight to Colombo had been withdrawn in the past due to poor occupancy. While Malindo withdrew its service after introduction of a flight to Kuala Lumpur by AirAsia, SriLankan Airlines found its operations unviable.

Instead of Silk Air, a low-cost carrier from Singapore will be operating a service to Singapore from October. Air India operates a flight from Vizag to Dubai with stopover in Hyderabad.
