Miffed at alleged ill-treatment by district officials, Chittoor MP N. Sivaprasad walked out of an official inaugural function at Chittoor on Wednesday.

Mr. Sivaprasad was about to inaugurate the ₹41 lakh synthetic basketball court built by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at the DSA Stadium, but was made to wait for Collector P.S. Pradyumna and Superintendent of Police Vikrant Patil. Though the Collector finally reached the venue, the event was delayed for the arrival of Mr. Patil.

Upset by this, he rose from his seat and walked out, while the event organisers tried in vain to convince him.

Though Mr. Pradyumna and Mr.Patil called him over his mobile and appealed him to return, he didn’t relent. When

The Hindu contacted him for his reaction over the incident, he said: “This reflects the lack of seriousness among the district officials. Why should the people’s representatives wait for the officials, who do not have the seriousness and punctuality?”.

‘No courtesy call’

Mr. Sivaprasad was also peeved at the Superintendents of Police of Chittoor and Tirupati Urban districts, who had recently assumed office, for not making a courtesy call on him. Meeting the local MP and expressing support to develop the district, according to him, was in vogue in the past, but seldom being followed.
