The first phase of L & T Hyderabad Metro Rail which was initially proposed from Nagole to Mettuguda may be extended up to Secunderabad railway station as the eight-km stretch was not financially and technically viable to the company for opening up immediately.

The Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao said this in the Assembly in reply to a question from BJP floor leader K. Laxman who sought to know why the first phase launch proposed on Ugadi (March 21) was postponed.
The Minister replied that there was no agreement between the L & T HMR as the concessonaire and the Telangana government for launch on Ugadi, the Telugu New Year Day. The decision was left to the company to decide the dates.
In any case, the entire project was proposed to be completed by July 2017, well before the deadline.

The Minister added that the government had, nonetheless, learnt from the company that the first phase launch was postponed till completion of the line up to Secunderabad railway station.
On the question of Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen member Moazam Khan seeking to know the fate of the diversion of route proposed by his party, the Minister said the government was examining diversion in three corridors -- opposite Assembly buildings, Sultan Bazaar and Old City -- but no decision was taken yet. The government will convene an all-party meeting on receipt of feasibility report before taking the decision.
Mr. Khan asked when the works will be grounded in Old City where the route was proposed parallel to rail lines that ferried Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) trains .
The MIM had proposed extension of metro train from Salarjung museum to Nayapul, Muslimjungpul, Puranapul, Kalapathar and Falaknuma.
