Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said the Centre had decided to start at least one medical college in every district to ensure at least one doctor per 1,000 people. The country had only 6.50 lakh doctors as against the need for 10.5 lakh doctors to meet the World Health Organisation norms, he added.
He inaugurated the Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) here along with his Cabinet colleague Y. S. Chowdary and Andhra Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao.
Attributing sedentary lifestyle to the increasing incidence of lifestyle diseases, he suggested yoga for all to keep diseases at bay.

Earlier, listing the achievements of the Narendra Modi government, he said thanks to the persistent efforts of the NDA government the situation was now conducive to bringing back the black money stashed in tax havens. Demonetisation had paved the way for bringing additional 91 lakh people into the tax net and going forward the income tax rates would come down, he said.
