Medical bandh total in Vijayawada

All private medical professionals, including doctors, paramedics, medical and dental college staff and diagnostic laboratories in the 13 districts of Seemandhra region observed bandh attending only to emergency cases.

Samaikyandhra Doctors JAC leaders and Vijayawada IMA secretary Vellanki Sreedevi said 48,000 doctors participated in the bandh to protest against the proposal to divide the State. All the 1,200 members of the Indian Medical Association of the Vijayawada chapter participated in the bandh. They took out a rally to the Sub-Collector’s office.

City unit president P.V. Ramana Murthy and others addressed the doctors and paramedics who participated in the rally. Noted quiz master and medical lecturer Y. Ashok conducted a quiz for doctors and others from the health care sector that gathered at the Sub-Collector’s office. In Guntur, private hospitals, medical shops and diagnostic centres observed a complete bandh to express solidarity with the ongoing agitation. In Visakhapatnam, private doctors at Narsipatnam went on a hunger strike. Meanwhile, AP Government Doctor’s Association State secretary P. Shyam Sundar said the bandh was observed by only a section of private hospitals in the district.
