Hundreds of people from different walks of life took on Sunday took part in the 2K run organised here in connection with the foundation stone laying ceremony of the capital at Amaravati. Rural folk also joined the event by carrying soil and water collected from their respective villages.
Excise and BC Welfare Minister K. Ravindra and Krishna district TDP president B. Arjunudu led the run from ZP Centre to Koneru Centre. Carrying signboards, enthusiastic students raised slogans highlighting the efforts of the State government in developing the new capital. Many among the participants, who had visited foundation site at Amaravati in Guntur district, shared their experiences of the visit, with fellow participants.
The soil and water collected from all the villages in Machilipatnam and surrounding areas were kept on display at the Konere Centre. Elders drawn from various faiths performed special prayers to the pots.

Buddhist monk Bantyaji and his students offered prayers to an idol of Buddha and spoke on the history of Amaravati.
