‘Machilipatnam coast suitable for marine police headquarters’

It is official. The State Home Ministry has realised that the Machilipatnam coast is a suitable location to set up headquarters of the State marine police wing.

“The marine police headquarters will be set up on the Machilipatnam coast keeping in the view of measures to strengthen marine police force in future in Andhra Pradesh,” Home Minister N. China Rajappa told The Hindu over phone on Saturday.

“An exercise over the plan is going on and more clarity will emerge by January 25 about the infrastructure and administrative facilities to be developed at the headquarters,” confirmed Mr. China Rajappa.

Long stretch

As a stretch of coastline between Srikakulam and Krishna districts is all set to have India’s biggest nuclear park proposed at Kovvada and Missile Test Launch Facility in Krishna district, the Home Ministry was gearing up to ensure placing better coastal security and its monitoring.

“We are looking for any direction from the ministry for necessary coordination, including for identification of suitable land for the project,” Police and Revenue officials of the Krishna district told

Waterways

As the Defence Research and Development Organisation is planning to use waterways to transport machinery for the Missile Test Launch Facility project at Nagayalanka in Krishna district, the State government has reportedly selected Machilipatnam coast as its base.
