Embracing technology in tune with the changing times, the temple city is all set to get its first-ever LPG-fired crematorium. The burial ground spread over an acre opposite Bonthalamma temple on Karakambadi Road is being modernised at a cost of Rs.1.5 crore and renamed as ‘Govinda Dhamam’. The graveyard belonging to Municipal Corporation of Tirupati (MCT) was formally handed over for the purpose to Rotary Club of Tirupati. The club, in turn, joined hands with Arya Vysya Officers and Professionals Association (AVOPA) and Satya Harischandra Hindu Rudrabhoomi Society to float a body ‘Maha Prasthana Seva Samithi’ to run the project. Against firewood, the system uses LPG to burn the mortal remains, thus ensuring clean environment.
