Makes maiden speech in the House of Elders

Making his maiden speech in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council on Friday, Nara Lokesh said he was honoured to be a member of the House of Elders and that he started learning his lessons having entered the Council at a relatively young age of 34.

Mr. Lokesh, who was recently elected member from the MLA quota, complimented the Opposition parties in the Council on giving good suggestions on issues of public concern and making constructive criticism of the government. However, the proceedings in the Assembly were not smooth due to the conduct of YSR Congress (YSRC), he observed, suggesting that it should ponder over it.

Mr. Lokesh went on to recall his association with the Deputy Chairman of the Council, Reddy Subramanyam, from his childhood when his father Chandrababu Naidu was general secretary of Telugu Desam Party.

Cabinet expansion

Meanwhile, actor and Hindupur MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna said in a chat with media persons in the Assembly lobbies that he would be in Vijayawada on April 2, in an indirect reference to the Cabinet expansion likely on that day.

His comment came amid speculation that his son-in-law Mr. Nara Lokesh is going to be given a Cabinet berth.

“The A.P. Legislative Assembly is as imposing as the one at Hyderabad”, Mr. Balakrishna said, adding that he planned to make a movie on his father N.T. Rama Rao next year.
