N. Sambasiva Rao, DGP, here on Sunday released names of 39 pattadars which were entered in the land records after tampering in Kommadi, Madhurawada and other villages in Visakhapatnam district.
A Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by senior police officer Vineet Brijlal would investigate the manipulation of documents pertaining to 270 acres of government land, said the DGP at a press conference. Visakhapatnam Joint Collector G. Srujana and RDO Vijaya Saradhi were the other members.
Mr. Rao said three cases had been registered in the Aryalova, Bheemli and Pendurthi police stations (Crime Nos.163/2017, 151/2017 and 749/2016). The government took the land grabbing or tempering issue very seriously and the accused would be punished irrespective of the cadre, he warned.

“During inquiry, it was revealed that the records were tampered with, but in the Sub-Registrar’s offices, the lands were in the name of the government. We are investigating why, who and for what purpose it had been done,” Mr. Rao said adding that the accused might have planned to borrow loan from the banks by producing the tampered records.
The SIT would go about in a professional manner and public could approach it with evidence. Though the records were altered, government land had not been registered or encroached upon, the DGP said.
“If any person is not satisfied with the SIT, he can approach the higher officials and raise the objections. The team is likely to submit its report in a couple of months,” Mr. Rao said.
