The Left parties have intensified their struggle seeking implementation of the promises made in the A.P. Reorganisation Act such as granting Special Category Status (SCS), new railway zone, and special package to the North Andhra and Rayalaseema regions.
A protest was staged at the Maddilapalem junction here on Friday in which the participants raised slogans seeking immediate declaration of the railway zone with headquarters in Visakhapatnam and SCS.
The protest was staged under the aegis of the Maddilapalem zone committee of the Left Parties.

CPI(M) city secretary B. Ganga Rao and CPI city executive member G. Vamana Murthy said the Centre had failed to fulfil the promises made at the time of bifurcation and cheated the people. They also flayed the changing stance of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on the SCS issue.
‘False cases’
Though the Centre had done injustice to the State in the Budget in the last four years, Mr. Naidu, instead of exerting pressure on the Modi Government, was trying to corner the Left and other opposition parties, they said.

The State government was foisting false cases and making preventive arrests to suppress the agitation, they alleged. The Left parties vowed to continue the agitations till the ruling governments kept their promise on the railway zone and SCS.
CPI(M) city committee leader P. Mani and zone leaders V. Krishna Rao, Appa Rao, Kumari, and Simhachalam, and CPI leaders P. Eswara Rao and J. Prabhakar were present.
The Left parties also staged a protest on the 80-feet road at Akkayyapalem.
