Lead Bank targets 27 lakh accounts

April 26, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - SRIKAKULAM:

Srikakulam district has achieved the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) target by opening bank accounts for 6.81 lakh households. The government had launched the project to help the poor obtain financial benefits without the involvement of middlemen.

The Lead Bank has asked all banks to organise financial literacy camps in villages to enlighten people on benefits of the scheme. Srikakulam Lead Bank Manager M. Ram Reddy said: “We have covered all households under PMJD. In the second phase, we will ensure that all the 27 lakh people in the district have bank accounts.”

We have taken up financial literacy campaigns in remote areas, including tribal villages, with the help of NGOs.
