‘Kurnool will emerge a industrial hub’

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has reiterated that all past promises made to people of Kurnool would be honoured in toto and laid out the progress made so far on various Kurnool projects.

Addressing a meeting after launching the Social Empowerment Mission here on Friday, he said Kurnool would emerge as an industrial hub considering the response from the investors. He said 5,000 acres were earmarked for 1,000 mw solar project, 3,000 acres for DRDL, 1,000 acres for Nuclear Fuel Complex and 16,000 acres for industrial units.

St Gobains, leading glass manufacturer, showed interest in setting up its manufacturing unit at Orvakal while Japanese company proposed Solar Components manufacturing unit. Gujarat Ambuja gave its letter of intent to set up starch unit which consumed four lakh tones of maize. A mango processing unit with a capacity to handle 40,000 tonnes was also coming up.

Above all the government cleared the way for Textile Park on 100 acres at Banavasi which would help farmers, workers and weavers. At Kolimigundla, the cement plants with a capacity of 40 million tonnes were coming up while the government was endowed with the responsibility of creating infrastructure, including a railway line for easy transport.

Mr. Naidu said a Greenfield Airport would come up at Orvakal on 3,000 acres while Kurnool would be developed as a satellite city using its proximity to Hyderabad.

The government released Rs 17 crore as its share for setting up Railway Midlife Coach Factory near Kurnool. The promised IIIT and Urdu University would start functioning from the next academic year, he said. The Chief Minister said Tungabhadra Institute of Medical Sciences would be established. A four-lane highway would be laid between the new capital and Kurnool city and Rs 80 crore would be sanctioned for creating a tourism circuit connecting all temples and tourist spots in Kurnool.

A group of SHGs members demanded the waiver of loans interrupting the speech of the Chief Minister. However, the police controlled the situation.
