Kurnool district is getting ready to implement the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) popularly known as Cash Transfer Scheme July onwards.
The district is one among the 78 districts in the country which would go for the scheme on pilot basis. In AP eight districts were selected for the pilot project.
A coordination meeting was held here on Thursday which was attended by General Manager Syndicate Bank E.K. Saigal, Collector C Sudarsan Reddy, Joint Collector K. Kannababu, Deputy General Manager Andhra Bank Durga Prasad, Sampath Kumar Chary of Andhra Pragati Grameena Bank, Assistant General Manager NABARD K. Sharieff and Lead District Manager V. Andavar.

The district administration requested the banks to update the accounts of 90,000 beneficiaries in Kurnool district who would be eligible for receiving the benefits under social pensions, MG NREGP, LPG refills supply, and student scholarships.
The bankers said 90 per cent of the beneficiaries held accounts but a large chunk of them were not linked with Aadhaar number. The bankers would get down to the job of updating the accounts before July. Mr. Saigal who represented the lead bank said the bankers should rise to the occasion since the government programme was path breaking. He said the banks were needed to disburse around Rs 3.20 lakh crore in a year under the scheme, which was meant for reaching out to the beneficiaries and check the pilferage or leakage.
