Date of commercial operations (CoD) may be just round the corner for the first unit of the Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station, popularly known as Krishnapatnam project, in Nellore district of Andhra Pradesh.
After many failed attempts, the 800-MW plant has reached its full capacity on Saturday evening and its CoD will finally be declared in three days if everything goes as planned, officials from the APGenco informed.
“The plant has to run on full capacity for 72 hours, before it is declared fit for commercial operations. We have hit the 800-MW mark this evening, and are hoping to announce CoD in three days,” informed K. Vijayanand, CMD, APGenco.

The commercial operations were to begin two days ago when it touched 795 MW but for a minor glitch in fine-tuning, he said. The project was initiated in 2009 in the united Andhra Pradesh through APPDCL, a special purpose vehicle, in which the State government, APGenco, and all the four Discoms held equity.
After bifurcation, equity held by the government and APGenco were totally transferred to AP, while the Discoms retained their shares. As per the AP Reorganisation Act and the Government Orders thereof, the APGenco was obliged to supply 53.89 per cent of power produced from the plants to Telangana Discoms. However, the AP government has made its stand clear through the Aggregate Revenue Requirement note submitted to APERC, wherein power produced from the Krishnapatnam plant was totally shown for AP Discoms.
