Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao called upon the officials of Education Department to spread awareness about the importance of the Kondapalli fort to motivate them to contribute their mite for its protection.

Speaking during the Vana Mahotsavam program organised by the Forest Department at the historic fort on Saturday, Mr. Rao said, in addition to this landmark which was built more than six centuries ago, the local forest was a repository of plants which have rich therapeutic properties.

It was therefore imperative that both the fort, from where Sri Krishnadevaraya had ruled and these medicinal plants were protected. He said Kondapalli toys were another legacy of the area.

The Minister said it was the government’s endeavour to raise greenery in 50% of the landmass by 2029 and that collective effort was required to achieve the goal.

District Collector B. Lakshmi Kantham, ZPTC Ch. Radha, Sarpanch Azmeera Swarna and District Forest Officer Banerjee were among those present.
