Former Minister and founder member of the Uttarandhra Charcha Vedika (UCV) Konathala Ramakrishna has written to the Ministry of Law and Justice, urging it to consider the setting up of two Benches of the High Court, one in Visakhapatnam in the north Coastal region and the other in the Rayalaseema region.
‘Vizag best suited’
“Both the regions are backward and it has been their long-pending demand,” Mr. Ramakrishna said in his letter, and drew the attention of the Ministry to the recommendation of the Sivaramakrishnan Committee, which advocated the establishment of the Benches in Visakhapatnam and Kurnool.

Stating that the High Court of Andhra Pradesh was functioning from Amaravati from January 1, he said Visakhapatnam was best suited to have a HC Bench.
“The city is home to six law colleges, including Damodaram Sanjeevaiah National Law University. This apart, the Visakhapatnam Bar comprises about 3,000 practising advocates,” he said. The city was also home to some of the biggest government establishments and PSUs , Mr. Ramakrishna said.
