Kiran spends night in the company of students

Chief Minister visits social welfare hostel at Atmakur as part of his tour of Kurnool district

Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy spent a night with the students of Integrated Social Welfare Hostel at Atmakur listening to their dreams and aspirations.

When the students asked for sports kits, he arranged three cricket kits, three volley balls, four shuttle bats and a carom board and presented them by morning on Thursday.

Entry into politics

Mr. Reddy interacted with the students and asked about their future goals. Many said they wanted to become doctors or engineers and some wanted to be policemen. He advised them to aim high. The students too asked the Chief Minister about his childhood dreams for which he simply replied that he had never wanted to take a plunge into politics but his father’s demise forced him to take the path.

He presented 35 dictionaries to the students and had breakfast with them. Later, the Chief Minister laid foundation stone for a colony of 600 houses for SC and ST beneficiaries. Then he inaugurated two borewells at Krishnapuram under Indira Jala Prabha scheme at a cost of Rs 14.40 lakh. At the market yard, Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy distributed assets to members of self-help groups and interacted with them. He told the group that the family economy had already gone into the hands of women after introduction of SHG concept.

The Chief Minister reviewed the Arogyasri programme and told the women that the programme sponsored 41 lakh surgeries by spending an amount of Rs. 1,300 crore. The Arogyasri budget would be enhanced to Rs. 1,400 crore and the 108 and 104 services would be improved further.

Status of projects

After the programme, he visited Velugodu reservoir and interacted with irrigation officials to know the status of various projects in the district. After darshan at Mahanandi temple, the Chief Minister flew back to Hyderabad.

Ministers Uttamkumar Kumar, Erasu Pratap Reddy, T.G. Venkatesh and others accompanied the Chief Minister. Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy skipped his visit to Srisailam due to time constraint.
