APNGOs’ meeting unlikely to have any impact on Telangana formation : KCR

The Telangana political Joint Action Committee (TJAC) has held Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy responsible for the attack on the Telangana youth by Seemandhra NGOs and police during the ‘Save Andhra Pradesh’ meeting held here recently.

The TJAC, at its steering committee meeting here on Tuesday, took serious note of the attack on the two youths, including a constable, who raised Jai Telangana slogans during the meeting convened by Seemandhra people. The TJAC condemned attacks on the offices of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Communist Party of India (CPI) by supporters of the unified State following their support to the Telangana cause. “How can the Seemandhra people bat for a unified State when they cannot bear slogans in support of separate Telangana,” TJAC chairman M. Kodandaram asked.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Prof. Kodandaram said the extended meeting of the TJAC would be held on September 14 to take stock of the situation and decide about the future course of action.

The steering committee had planned a public meeting/convention demanding expeditious steps for creating separate Telangana State, tentatively on September 30. The convention was aimed at mobilising people in support of the demand for speedy completion of the Statehood process so that there would be no scope for increasing animosity between the people of the two regions.

Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, on his part, made light of the meeting convened by the APNGOs claiming such meetings were unlikely to have any impact on the Telangana formation. Criticising the NGO leaders for their “atrocious behaviour,” he said the struggle for separate Telangana had reached its final stages and no force could stop the formation of the State.

Interacting with the members of Teachers and other unions on Monday, Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao, however, wanted the Telangana activists to be cautious till separate statehood for Telangana was realised. A massive public meeting would be organised in the city shortly and the dates and final agenda of the meeting would be finalised by the TJAC in its next extended general body meeting.
