‘Kingpin’ in human trafficking racket traced in Dubai

Efforts are being made to get her deported, says DGP

Police probing the inter-country human trafficking racket found that more than 400 agents are sending women to Gulf countries from different places in West Godavari district.

Following complaints lodged by two victims of Mogalturu village and K. Jaggavaram village in T. Narsapuram mandal in West Godavari district, police registered cases against Donda Venkata Subba Rao alias Chinna Babu, Akumarthi Jyothi and Seelam Chinna.

Similar cases have been registered in Kurnool and Krishna districts.

The accused were booked under Sections 370 r/w. 34 IPC, 420, 24 (1) (b) of Emigration Act, 1983 and other sections.

“More than 400 agents, who are sending women to Gulf countries were traced and most of them do not possess any licence. They were doing the illegal trade since a few years,” West Godavari Superintendent of Police (SP) Navdeep Singh Grewal said.

Jyothi, who allegedly trafficked many victims to Gulf countries, was traced in Dubai.

Her car driver, Chinna, was also identified in the same country.

“Two of the accused in the case were traced in Dubai. The CID and the Law and Order police are in touch with the Indian Embassy in Dubai. We are trying to bring back Jyothi by following the legal procedure,” Director General of Police (DGP) Gautam Sawang said.

‘Appointed agents’

“Once we question Jyothi, police will get more information in the case. The woman, who settled in Dubai and appointed agents in Andhra Pradesh, had reportedly trafficked many victims to Qatar, Kuwait and Dubai,” the Director General of Police said. A native of Vedullapalem village in Palakol mandal, Jyothi, is staying at Kothapet in Palakol Town.

“Akumarthi Jyothi, also known as Dubai Jyothi, settled in Gulf countries long back. She rarely comes to India, and is known for sending women to Dubai, Kuwait and other countries. Agents will collect about ₹1 lakh and above from each person,” said a woman V. Satyavathi of Palakol.

Victim brought back

The Krishna district police brought back a victim, who was stranded in Dubai, and handed over to her family members on Friday.

“The 35-year-old woman was one among those sent to Dubai by an agent, Ramakrishna, arranged by Jyothi. She is a native of Korukallu village of Kalidindi mandal,” said Krishna district Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu.

We request the family members of the victims, if any stranded in Gulf countries, to approach the local police for help, the SP said.
