“We suffered for about 10 years without children and spent sleepless nights. There is no meaning in life without kids. Finally, the Women Development and Child Welfare (WD&CW) department has given us a child for adoption and it filled our family with joy,” says a beaming Vijaya Lakshmi, who adopted a child from the Sishu Gruha run by the WD&CW officials.
“The entry of the child into our family has changed our world. Our dream of having a kid has become a reality, thanks to the almighty and the Sishu Gruha,” the adoptive mother exults.
Mothers were seen hugging, kissing and playing with their toddlers during the Mother’s Day celebrations organised by the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) of the WD&CW department at the Collector’s camp office on Sunday.

Parents get emotional
Emotional scenes were witnessed when the couples explained the trauma and the insult faced within the family and in the society for many years because they had remained issueless.
“We had visited many hospitals and spent huge amounts to have children. I cried a lot for kids. Thanks to the State and Central governments for giving children in adoption, which brought light into our lives,” said another mother Nirmala.

Quits job
“I was working in a private firm in Hyderabad, and I and my wife were shocked when doctors confirmed that we could not have children. I opted for a child through cara.nic.in, but the ICPS staff said they could not give a child if we stayed at Hyderabad. I quit my job, came back to my native village in Krishna district and one day I got a phone call from WD&CW officials. Finally our dream to become parents has been fulfilled,” said a father.
All the women who attended the International Mother’s Day programme expressed their joy over becoming mothers and had a good time participating in the celebrations.
“It’s a dream of every woman to be called ‘amma’ in life. We have waited for many years and now have become ‘amma’ and ‘nanna’, and have the fortune of experiencing the love of our smiling kid,” said a couple from Avanigadda and thanked the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA) and the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA) for giving them a child in adoption.
The ICPS staff offered sweets and biscuits to the kids and parents who attended the celebrations.
