KIA launches programme to boost self-reliance among villagers

Korean students build cycle stand, fence park at ITI

South Korean students performed in a cultural show at the Industrial Training Institute(ITI) here at the launch of the KIA Green Light Project Initiative (India) on Friday.

Incharge Collector S. Dilli Rao asked car-manufacturer KIA Motors to take lead in uplifting people’s lives in Anantapur district, where it had set up its manufacturing unit.

‘Economy improved’

Launching the project, Mr. Rao said the manufacturing unit had transformed the district and improved its economy.

Earlier, the students, as part of the project, had worked on infrastructure of many schools in Penukonda. On Friday, they built a cycle stand at the ITI and fenced the park on the campus.

Active role

Later in the evening, they presented a musical programme aimed at promoting rights to education and health, wherever KIA had its presence, said Mr. Kim, the company’s representative.

Assuring KIA Motors of support, Mr. Rao exhorted Mr. Kim to play an active role in improving basic amenities in the 1,003 gram panchayats in the district.

“We aspire to offer a variety of opportunities to communities facing constraints and limitations. We will continue to expand our activities by selecting new beneficiaries every year,” said Mr. Kim.

College Principal Tulasi said for sustainable development of local communities, the KIA Motors had been supporting local financial self-reliance systems and capacity building of residents.
