Kerala Tourism has launched quick response (QR) code-aided tourism search, an innovative tool which makes it easier for travellers to find destinations and related information on the official website.
The facility has been rolled out as smartphones have started playing a key role in travel planning. The QR code-aided tourism search optimises interactive features of the site keralatourism.org.
Kerala Tourism has already established hundreds of QR-coded signboards along the road network in the State. Travellers can scan the QR code using a smartphone or a tab which has a QR-code reader. The radius of the location to be known can be selected. The predetermined distance varies from 2 km to 50 km. A total of 1,200 geo-tagged photos from various parts of Kerala, with around 75 photographs from each district, have been uploaded on the website.

Addressing a press conference after launching the QR code here on Wednesday, Minister for Tourism A.P. Anil Kumar said Kerala Tourism was the first to offer the facility in the country.
Developed by IT solution provider Invis Multimedia, the QR code will be carried soon on tourism-related magazines and brochures.
Kerala Tourism is looking for a massive collection of geo-tagged images with people’s participation in expanding the QR code database.

Geo-tagged photographs with location information of possible tourism destinations can be uploaded on the website using a smartphone. This will be verified before including in the QR code-aided tourism search.
