Trolley cabin tilted to a side after some bolts came loose

In a freak mishap, a 17-year-old girl was killed and two others injured after falling from a rotating ferris wheel, which was set up at a fair on the Government Junior College grounds at Paderu in Visakhapatnam district late on Monday night.

The fair was organised as part of the Sri Modakondamma Jaathara, an annual local festival. Police said that the trolley cabin in which the victims were sitting tilted to a side, with all four occupants falling to the ground from a great height.

The deceased was identified as P. Bhavani (17), a native and resident of Paderu mandal.

According to Paderu Inspector G. Prem Kumar, the incident reportedly occurred at around 1.30 a.m.

Bhavani, along with two of her family members, attended the fair at Government Junior College grounds. The three boarded the ferry wheel along with another person.Police said that some bolts of the trolley cabin reportedly came loose which led to the cabin tilting to a side.

Two injured

Out of the four, three suffered injuries while one escaped unhurt. Locals rushed them to the hospital.

Bhavani reportedly died within 10 minutes after reaching the hospital, as she had suffered severe head injuries. The other two persons were shifted to King George Hospital from Paderu government hospital. The condition of the two is said to be stable.“Following a complaint lodged by the girl’s parents, we have registered a case.

A non-bailable case has been booked on the person running the ferris wheel,” said Circle Inspector Prem Kumar. Further investigation is on.
