The YSR Congress Party suffered a jolt in the district on Saturday with ZP chairman Bommireddy Raghavendra Reddy announcing his resignation from the party, vexed with what he called the “dictatorial attitude” of party president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy.

Anam’s entry

Addressing the media here, Mr. Raghavendra Reddy, who had been taking care of the party affairs in the Venkatagiri Assembly constituency, said he was not taken into confidence when former Minister Anam Ramanarayana Reddy was made convener of the Assembly segment.

I had no qualms over the admission of Mr. Ramanarayana Reddy, who had enjoyed power during the Congress rule, but joined the TDP after it came to power and quit the party at the fag end of its term only to try his electoral fortunes in the YSRCP in 2019 elections, he said.

“I am not after the MLA seat. But I am upset with the way I have been treated by the party leadership,” Mr. Raghavendra Reddy said.

“In this situation, no person with self-esteem will be able to continue in the party,” Mr. Raghavendra Reddy said.

‘Money power’

“During my recent visit to the Lotus Pond (the residence of Mr. Jagan in Hyderabad), the party chief had said that Mr. Ramanarayana Reddy was financially sound, and whether I am in a position to spend huge sums of money at the time of elections,” Mr. Raghavendra Reddy charged.

Ruling out joining any party at this juncture, he said, “If any party approaches me, I will consider it after consulting my followers.”

He also ruled out contesting from the Venkatagiri Assembly constituency as an Independent in the 2019 elections.
