YSRC president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy’s proposed three-day ‘jala deeksha’ in Kurnool against the “illegal projects” undertaken by the Telangana government was aimed at safeguarding the irrigation interests of the Krishna delta area, said Rayalaseema Parirakshana Samithi president Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy on Sunday. Participating in a dharna in front of Sri Krishnadevarayulu statue here, he advised Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy to call off his proposed protest, apologise to the people of Rayalaseema, and plan the ‘deeksha’ in Amaravati. “Don’t provoke Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao as his cooperation is imperative to take up projects proposed in Rayalaseema,” he said. The ‘jala deeksha’ was a ploy to hoodwink the people of Rayalaseema, he alleged.

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy were trying to protect the interests of coastal Andhra (represented by 123 MLAs) and ignoring the plight of Rayalaseema (represented by 52 MLAs), he alleged. Rayalaseema was subjected to neglect though six Chief Ministers hailed from the region and former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao was at the helm, Mr. Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy asserted. Asserting that the Siddheswaram, Gundrevula, and Rajolibanda Diversion Scheme projects in the district were inter-linked with Telangana, he advised Mr. Jagan not to antagonise Mr. Chandrasekhara Rao and put the projects at stake.
