Intercity to chug out from Kurnool today

Union Minister of State for Railways Kotla Jayasuryaprakasa Reddy will flag off the Intercity Express between Kurnool and Secunderabad at 10 a.m. here on Tuesday.

The train is scheduled to depart from Kurnool start at 6.05 a.m. at and arrive in Secunderabad at 10.45 a.m. In fact, it reaches Kacheguda by 10.05 am. In return journey, the train leaves Secunderabad at 16.45 hrs and reaches Kurnool by 21.35 hrs.

The train will have 21 coaches with two to three AC chair car units.

On the maiden journey, the train leaves Kurnool at 10 a.m. to facilitate a grand inaugural. The Congress and supporters of Mr. Suryaprakasa Reddy are planning to mobilise people in a big way to mark the inauguration of the train.

Mr. Suryaprakasa Reddy said he had fulfilled all the promises made to the people of his constituency at the time of elections on becoming the Railway Minister.

The Kurnool Town station was upgraded to Kurnool city after a relentless pursuance for nine years.

The upgradation would result in more berths for the station on long-distance trains and a halt for inter-State trains.

Also, the duration of halt would be increased as per the grading of the station.

Mr. Reddy said the Kurnool city station was being developed at cost of Rs. 5 crore which includes a second entrance with ticket counter facility on the western side for the convenience of commuters from Ashok Nagar, Venkataramana Colony and New Bus Stand area.

The foundation would be laid soon for Railway Midlife Wagon Rehabilitation Centre (Wagon Workshop) costing Rs. 250 crore. Also, an amount of Rs. 8 crore was sanctioned from the Central Government for Development of Eco-park on degraded reserve forest area on the outskirts and Rs. 2 crore for development of Abdul Wahab Tomb, a heritage structure in the old city. The Minister said he was working on sanction of doubling of line between Secunderabad and Guntakal. Also, double-deckers would be introduced. He deplored the critics saying that those who could do nothing during their tenure were unable to digest the development now.

DEMU passenger

The Minister will also flag off a DEMU passenger between Nandyal and Kurnool city on Tuesday along with Kurnool-Secunderabad Intercity Express.

The train will run five days in a week i.e. Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The train which starts at 17.30 hrs here reaches Nandyal at 22.10 hrs.

In return journey, the train leaves Nandyal at 6.15 and reaches Kurnool at 10.20 hrs.

The train stops at all stations en route.
