The IAS Officers’ Association has condemned the alleged threatening of Krishna District Collector Babu A. by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy at the Nandigama Government Hospital on Tuesday. The association, which met under the chairmanship of A.K. Parida at the interim Secretariat near here on Wednesday, decided to take up the matter with Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Talking to reporters, Mr. Parida said that the association had taken a serious note of the Mullapadu incident. It was not correct on his (Mr. Jagan) part to threaten the officials who were working for the State.“The way Mr. Jagan behaved with the district Collector was not proper. How can he tell an IAS officer that he would be sent to jail?” he asked.
“Both officers and people’s representatives should respect one another. Officials are important part of democratic set-up and belittling them is not good for the system. It sends wrong signals to people,” he said.
Mr. Parida said that it was an attempt to degrade the institution of the Collector and District Magistrate.

“We condemn the levelling of baseless allegations of corruption against the district Collector, medical officers and police officials,” he said.
Plea to political parties
Mr. Parida said that the association urges all the political parties to restrain from making such public utterances that demoralise the officers concerned. The association further urged upon them to respect the institutions for providing good governance in the State, he said.

The meeting was attended by senior IAS officers, including JC Sharma, Lingaraju Panigrahi, Manmohan Singh, LV Subramanyam, Solomon Arokyaraj, Ajay Jain, Mr. Babu, and Joint Collector G. Chandrudu.
