Helmet rule: vehicles of repeat violators to be seized

The traffic police have warned motorcyclists to comply with the mandatory wearing of helmets from November 1, failing which serious action would be initiated against them.

Those driving cars should also compulsorily wear seat belts from November 1, Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) J. Ram Babu said on Wednesday. “We will have educated motorists. From November we will strictly enforce provision of the Motor Vehicles Act,” he said.

“To start with, a fine of Rs. 100 will be collected. We will go to the extent of seizing vehicles of repeat violators, the DSP warned. The traffic police would also act sternly against autorickshaw drivers and others resorting to overloading of vehicles, the DSP said.
