‘Govt. failed to arrest accused in social boycott case’

Former MP of Amalapuram G.V. Harsha Kumar began a hunger strike at his residence here on Wednesday in protest against the “government’s failure to arrest the four accused in the social boycott of Dalits in Garagaparru village of West Godavari district.”

Mr. Harsha Kumar was under house arrest from Wednesday as the police did not allow him or his family members to move out of the house. The police barricaded both the ends of the street. Four-wheelers were not being allowed to take the stretch. Two-wheeler owners were being frisked before being allowed to take the route that leads to the A.P. Paper Mill.

A posse of policemen had been posted in front of his residence. Central DSP J. Kulasekhar was monitoring the situation. However, the police did not impose restrictions on entry of his supporters.

Addressing mediapersons, Mr. Harsha Kumar said the social boycott of Dalits on such a scale had never taken place.

He said Amalapuram MP Pandula Ravindra Babu, who visited the village, too said the incident was a case of social boycott and untouchability.

Mr. Harsha Kumar said he would not budge until the accused were arrested.
