The State government is concerned over growing malnutrition levels among children of government run social welfare residential schools, Minister for Social Welfare Ravela Kishore Babu said here on Thursday Improving the nutrition levels by providing high quality protein food, millets and eggs were some of the decisions taken by the Social Welfare and Tribal Welfare Ministry, the Minister said addressing the Graduation Day of 2010 batch of Sibar Institute of Dental Sciences here.
“We welcome individuals/organisations to support our efforts in providing the best facilities for students of social welfare schools. We are also going ahead with the concept of cluster schools integrating schools with residential institutions,’’ the Minister said.
Pointing out that there was a clear difference between children of social welfare schools and those studying in corporate colleges, the Minister said low level of malnutrition has been cited as the main reason behind the poor academic performance.

Earlier, he asked the medical graduates to provide a human touch in their treatment of patients and added that those involved in health care should have a responsibility towards society.
“Society has given you everything, status, profession and family, so you should give back to it,’’ he said.
Principal of the college K. Krishna Prasad said that the college has conducted oral hygiene camps in villages and free dental camps for students of government schools.

Later, the minister gave away the gold medals to best out going students - Kaluva Kolanu Sreeha (MDS), Matsa Prameela (BDS), N. Lella Chandra Manozna (all round performance in BDS). As many as 76 graduates of BDS and 34 in MDS have been given certificates.
