Superintendent of Police S.V. Rajasekhar Babu on Wednesday launched a unique scheme — Badi Runam Theerchukondam — covering 100 schools in the first phase, at ZP High School in Narayanavanam mandal headquarters near Puttur.
Addressing a gathering of teachers, students, parents and villagers, he said that as part of the scheme, the police are striving to rope in Indians settled in the US, Europe, the South East and Gulf countries. He said Anil Kumar from the US was the first to respond to the appeal. His donation to the ZP High School at Narayanavanam would be helpful in reconstruction of the classrooms and establishment of a mineral water plant.
The SP said that the Chittoor police had floated the idea of adopting government schools and hostels in July last.

“By December 2017, personnel at the field level had identified 70 schools, initiating facelift at various levels, improving infrastructure, creating playgrounds, and distributing uniforms and stationary. Some of the social welfare hostels are also being looked after by some senior police officials,” he said, adding that the role of the NRIs and philanthropists would go a long way in creating the best academic ambience in government schools.
Sobering effect
“Students who studied in government schools are now well placed. The visit of police personnel to adopted schools and hostels has created a sense of discipline among students,” he said.

“The young minds will begin to see the police as protectors of law and order, shunning the regular emotions of fear and aversion. This development would further contribute to stopping crime against women in the early stages by inculcating discipline among the students,” the SP said.
Deputy SP (Puttur) Bhavani Harsha, and police officials from Satyavedu, Narayanavanam, Nagari, Pichatur, Nagalapuram and Varadaiahjpalem took part in the event, which witnessed impressive cultural activities by students.
