In his ongoing visit to flood hit areas in Nellore district, YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy came down heavily on the State government for what he described as its failure to come to the rescue of the victims of heavy rains and floods in Nellore district here on Wednesday.

Mr. Reddy visited the flood affected areas in Vakadu, Gudur and other areas in south coastal district where heavy rains caused overflowing and floods in many tanks and highways in the past two weeks.

Continuing his visit for the second day on Wednesday, Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy deplored that though thousands of families were silently suffering in the wake of floods, the government had not taken any steps to provide some relief to them immediately. “An urgent assistance of Rs. 5,000 should be given per family in all the affected areas,” he added.

Stating that immense was done to crops and agricultural fields and irrigation tanks, Mr. Reddy assured the victims and farmers to take up the matter in Parliament on behalf of their party and see that justice was done to the victims in the flooded villages and areas.

Mr. Jaganmohan Reddy criticized Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu for what he described as unfair on the part of the government to blame the officials over the issue of meagre relief to victims while not giving them the required funds to meet the urgency.
