In a move to de-escalate the tensions between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governments on bifurcation of schedule X institutions, Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan may give a direction for maintenance of status quo till the issue is resolved by the Union Government or the Supreme Court.
After a meeting with the Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Department officials, Chief Secretary I.Y.R. Krishna Rao met the Governor here on Saturday and took to his notice two more controversial decisions taken by Ambedkar Open University and Potti Sriramulu Telugu University and sought his intervention.
In line with the stand of the Telangana Government that the institutions located in Hyderabad belong to Telangana, the Open University withheld the results of Andhra Pradesh students while announcing the results of Telangana students. In yet another decision, the Potti Sriramulu Telugu University apparently took a decision not to give admissions to students hailing from Andhra Pradesh. As both the decisions were contested by Andhra Pradesh HRD Department that they were in violation of the provisions of the State Reorganisation Act, Mr. Krishna Rao raised the issues with the Governor.

The Governor who returned from Delhi on Friday night after apprising the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Secretary L.C.Goyal on the differences between the AP and Telangana governments is believed to have positively responded to the suggestion that status quo should be maintained by both the States on Schedule X institutions till the Union Government or the apex court resolve the differences over the bifurcation of these issues.
