Goddess Padmavathi, the consort of Lord Venkateswara, rode her favourite celestial carriers, the ‘Adi Sesha’ and ‘Hamsa’, on the second day of the annual ‘Kartheeka Brahmotsavams’ conducted at Tiruchanur here on Sunday.
The deity was seated on the ‘Pedda Sesha Vahanam’ and taken on the streets encircling the temple in the morning. The seven-hooded serpent is a manifestation of ‘Adisesha’. Devotees took part in large numbers at the ritual, given the general belief that taking a glimpse of the deity on the carrier would ensure salvation.
A celestial bath (Snapana Tirumanjanam) was given to the deity at Srikrishna Mukha Mandapam inside the temple in the afternoon with milk, curd, honey, tender coconut water etc. A rich paste of turmeric and sandal was used and the idol smeared with it, before a final bath.

The ‘Padmasali Sangham’ and the TTD’s Chennai-based local advisory board (LAC) presented a silk ‘Vastram’ to the Goddess.
On behalf of the LAC, Anand Kumar Reddy handed over the silk cloth to the Executive Officer L.V. Subrahmanyam. In the evening, the bejewelled deity of the Goddess was taken around on ‘Hamsa Vahanam’, representing a swan.
Joint EO P.Venkatrami Reddy, Deputy Inspector-General of Police (Anantapur range) Charu Sinha, TTD’s Chief Vigilance and Security Officer G.V.G.Ashok Kumar, Deputy EO Gopala Krishna, Asst. EO Venugopal and Superintending Engineer Ramachandra Reddy took part in the procession.
