Folk artistes from various parts of the district launched a cultural campaign through the vibrant folk art form “Palle Suddulu” here on Tuesday with a mission to spread awareness on voting right and ensure active participation of people in electoral process.

A group of folk artistes hit the road on a Prachara Ratham to reach out to the masses as part of ‘Cultural crusade’ against electoral malpractices including use of money power in the coming elections. A striking feature of the cultural campaign is that the folk artistes publicised the newly-introduced “None of The Above” (NOTA) option while highlighting the significance of voting right to strengthen democracy.

They also enacted a street play to drive home the point that voting is a powerful tool to elect right persons with integrity and ensure bright future for society and the nation as a whole. We consider the task of spreading awareness on voting right among people as a sacred duty, says P. Venkanna, an artiste of the famous Palle Suddulu folk art form.

The cultural campaign would be conducted in an apolitical manner to mobilise public opinion against electoral malpractices and enlist active cooperation of people in ensuring free and fair elections. Focus would be laid on the areas where low polling percentage was recorded in the previous elections, says another folk artist. The cultural campaign being organised by the folk artistes under the aegis of the government departments concerned evoked appreciation from the election authorities.
