It was a riot of colours, literally! Flowers of various hues were used for ‘Pushpa Yagam’ performed at the TTD’s Sri Govindaraja Swamy temple here on Wednesday.

The ritual is a special festival conducted in temples for seeking the deity’s pardon ‘with flowers’ for sacrilegious acts of commission or omission by the priests, employees or even the devotees.

After the celestial bath, the ritual was performed between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m., when baskets full of flowers were offered to deities of the Lord and His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi. Sixteen varieties of flowers weighing five tonnes including rose, lily, marigold, tulasi, mogali and ganneru were used for the ritual. Donors from Chennai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru cities contributed the flowers for the ritual. Devotees and employees led by the TTD Executive Officer D. Sambasiva Rao and his wife brought the flowers in a colourful procession from the Anjaneya Swamy temple situated opposite the shrine.
