Congress floor leader in the State Legislative Council C. Ramachandraiah has suggested that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu should finalise the location of the capital, after holding discussions with all political parties and arriving at a consensus.
Speaking at a media conference at the party office here Tuesday, he said the A.P. Reorganisation Bill had provisions for denotification of forest land to meet the needs of the capital. Acquisition of land in the areas, where the prices were whopping, would entail expenditure of thousands of crores and legal tangles, he said and suggested that the capital should be located in a backward area.

Referring to the row over the students’ nativity issue, Mr. Ramachandraiah urged Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao not to hinder EAMCET counselling, but to follow the Supreme Court orders. The apex court ought to have given clarity on fee reimbursement issue, he said and sought Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan’s intervention to resolve the issue.
Refuting Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu’s allegation against the Congress on State bifurcation, Mr. Ramachandraiah said the issue was considered by the UPA Government after Mr. Chandrababu Naidu sent a letter favouring it. The UPA government gave a blueprint for the State for the next 10 years, accorded special status to it and accorded Polavaram a national project status.
Faulting Mr. Naidu’s approach on loan waiver and blaming the Reserve Bank of India, he suggested that the State government should make a budgetary provision to bear the loan waiver and later put forth its claim to the RBI. The floor leader accused Mr. Naidu of neglecting Kadapa district for not voting for the TDP.
