Uncertain future: Students of Fathima Medical College addressing the media on Sunday.

Students of the 2015-16 batch of Fathima Institute of Medical Sciences (FIMS-Kadapa), whose admission was rendered invalid by the Medical Council of India (MCI), have urged the State government to ensure justice for them lest their careers should be permanently ruined.

They stated that two academic years had been wasted, but the State government appeared to have not taken the matter seriously. They sought urgent action in consultation with the MCI and other authorities concerned.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, parents’ representatives Md. Abdullah and Md. Irshad and a student Sophia said they were in dire straits after their plea seeking a direction to the MCI to recognise their admission as legal was struck down by the Supreme Court. They squarely blamed the State government for their plight. They said a student belonging to Hindupur had attempted suicide having suffered a major setback in his career and huge monetary loss to his parents.

The parents said that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s promise during the campaigning for Nandyal by-election to accommodate them in other colleges did not materialise.

Expressing regret that they had been making the rounds of the Supreme Court, the MCI, the CMO, and Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas for more than one year, but to no avail, they doubted the utility of filing a special leave petition in the apex court at this juncture.
