In a shocking incident, a farmer committed suicide by consuming pesticide in the chambers of Joint Collector K. Kannababu here on Friday. The farmer identified as K. Nagaiah (60) of Pandikona village in Pathikonda mandal was grappling with a land dispute for 15 years.
Land dispute
According to eye-witnesses, the farmer approached the Joint Collector in his chambers and presented a copy of the representation to him seeking his help to resolve the land dispute.

The Joint Collector consoled the farmer saying everything could be done within the purview of the law.
Nagaiah, who looked disturbed, said the local officials were a bit indifferent.
While Mr. Kannababu was perusing the representation, the farmer suddenly took out a pesticide bottle and consumed it.

The presspersons present there tried to wean away the farmer by snatching the bottle.
They even tried to make him vomit the fluid.
Nagaiah was immediately shifted to hospital by the attendants of the Joint Collector, but he died before the doctors started treatment.
The medical team said the farmer’s life could not be saved as he consumed a large amount of poison.
According to reports, Nagaiah had a dispute with his cousins over a piece of land measuring around four acres. He felt aggrieved that the authorities did not help him.
Soon after the incident, Mr. Kannababu contacted the revenue officials at Pathikonda and gathered the facts of the case.

He pulled up the officials for not educating the victim about the legal position.
